The purpose of this bulletin is to present the most recent changes made to the SSUC by the Government of Canada. You will also find attached a reminder of certain rules concerning the SSUC;

As announced when Bill C-9, which received Royal Assent on November 19, 2020, was tabled, the SSUC will be extended until June 2021 inclusive. In addition, the maximum subsidy rate that an entity may receive for periods 9 and 10 will remain the same as that applicable to period 8, i.e. a rate of up to 65% of eligible salaries. Other changes have also been made to the legislation:

  • About the notion of "eligible employee"

  • About the calculation of the SSUC compensatory rate

  • About the notion of basic pay

  • About the subsidy for employees on paid leave
