Dear Madam,

Dear Sir

As previously announced, the Emergency Wage Subsidy (EWS), the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) and the Canadian Economic Recovery Benefit (CERB) ended on 23 October 2021. On 21 October 2021, the government announced that these programmes would be replaced by targeted assistance programmes for both businesses and individuals. The targeted measures for businesses would be aimed at the hospitality and tourism sector, hard-hit businesses and businesses subject to containment measures. The Economic Recovery Hiring Programme (PEREC), which was due to end on November 20, would also be extended. Measures for individuals would provide financial support to employees whose employers are subject to containment measures. The Canadian Caregiver Economic Recovery Benefit (CCERB) and the Canadian Economic Recovery Sickness Benefit (CERB) would also be extended.

Please note that this document provides an overview of the measures as announced on 21 October 2021. The targeted measures for businesses are in force for a period of 28 days only, i.e. from 24 October to 20 November 2021. The government is proposing to extend them until 7 May 2022, but this measure will have to be the subject of a bill and will only come into force once it has received Royal Assent. The measures may therefore not be extended beyond 20 November 2021 or may be subject to significant changes for periods after 20 November 2021.
